hFMA supports the 37th ffk, which will be hosted for the first time by the Institut für Theater-, Film- und Medienwissenschaft at Goethe-Universität Frankfurt. The “Film- und Medienwissenschaftliche Kolloquium”/The Film and Media Studies Colloquium (ffk) is a non-institutionalized, specialist conference that has been taking place annually at a different university and in a different city since 1988. The 37th ffk will take place from the 20th to 22nd of March 2024.

Attention, students of hFMA-universities!

Goethe University Frankfurt invites you to participate in the 37th Film and Media Studies Colloquium (FFK).
From March 20.-22. 2024, employees of the institute of Theatre, Film and Media Studies (TFM) hosts this open scientific platform for current research topics from film, television and media cultural sciences in cooperation with colleagues from Philipps-Universität Marburg.

ffk is an event organized and hosted by junior researchers for junior researchers.
Undergraduates, PhD students, and Postdocs are invited to present their current projects (theses, papers, student initiatives, dissertations, habilitations) and to discuss them with their peers.

All student participants who would like to get an insight into film and media studies aside from the regular curriculum or interested in an academic career are cordially invited to the colloquium!

The deadline for submissions was November 30th, 2023.

You can register now and until March 6th for participation. Further information can be found here.

The program can be found here.

At the ffk, we focus on current research tendencies within the academic mid-level staff, contributing to the further development of research in film, television, and media studies. Master students, doctoral candidates, and postdocs are invited to present their research and their current projects – such as master’s theses, dissertations, third-party funded projects, postdoc-research, habilitations etc. – and open them up for discussion. The ffk offers room for experimentation in terms of both content and form. It is important to us that every proposal that is submitted becomes part of the colloquium.

The ffk is open to new as well as established ways of thinking and working, and we welcome submissions from those who work at the interface between science and audiovisual art as well as researchers working in a scientifically artistic or artistically scientific way. In addition to academic interaction, there will also be a supporting program which will provide low-threshold opportunities to talk to each other and to get to know one another.

Submission of scientific and artistic research contributions (open regarding both content and form)

Participation in ffk 2024 is not subject to any thematic restrictions and we are particularly open to alternative formats ofpresentation. The following can be submitted:

  • Presentations (e.g., individual lectures, posters, video essays, performances, etc.)
  • Panels (consisting of several presentations, e.g. on an overarching thematic complex)
  • Workshop and alternative formats for creative exchange (e.g., writing workshops, video essay reviews, workshops, reading groups, etc.)

Selected contributions will be published after the ffk 2024 in the ffk Journal, the open access publication platform of the colloquium.

Padlet / „Buntes Brett“

In order to adhere to the open format structure of the ffk 2024 already during planning, we have set up a digital, low-threshold padlet as a forum, which can be found here.
People interested in the colloquium who are not yet sure about their choice of topic, who are looking for co-organizers ofa workshop, readers on a certain thematic area/term, etc. can get in touch with each other here during the registration phase. We want to encourage participants to utilize this platform and form small groups to work out a panel or workshop proposal. This way, we would like to facilitate networking between participants who may not yet be acquainted with each other. Therefore, contributors who have already networked via the forum by the registration deadline but have not yet decided on the format of their contribution can make use of an extended registration deadline (see participation information).

Accessibility

The ffk is a networking opportunity for young academics in film and media studies, and it is of great importance to us, asthe organizing team, to make participation as easy as possible for all. We believe that far too often, important voices inacademia are not heard because academics with disabilities, chronic illnesses, care or parenting responsibilities, etc. donot have the same opportunities to network. We would like to actively counteract this. Therefore, we invite you to inform usof any specific requirements you may have during the registration process, so that we can make necessary arrangementsto ensure your comfort and participation.

Covid-Concept

“Covid is here to stay”: As happy as we are to be able to plan the ffk 37 in person, we still assume that it will be necessary to take security measures in spring 2024. We will announce the specific measures in advance by email. Generally, we adhere to the regulations of the Goethe University Frankfurt that are applicable at the time of the conference.
