As an independent discipline, TFM studies the history, theory and aesthetics of the matter in question. It takes account of institutional and societal factors as it does of contemporary artistic and media-related developments.

Contemporary theatre, film, cinema and media culture as well as the conveying of practical experience constitute substantial parts of the course, which bridges between theatre as a “spectatorial” mass medium and the digital media age.
