How does democracy relate to cinema in a moment of the supposed crisis of democracy?
a focus on three case studies of relatively new players in the global
cultural economy, all of which combine the emergence of a popular cinema
with the consolidation of liberal democracy – India, Nigeria and South
Korea –, this conference explores how cinema, and particularly popular
cinema, configures the demos in modern democracies by articulating and
dramatizing the conflicts and crises of democratic polities, while
developing a significant appeal beyond the geographical and political
boundaries of these polities.
The Conference is open to all interested parties – No registration or conference fee.
